ADIKAM, founded in 1997, emphasized the necessity of language variety through conferences and panels held in various platforms in Izmir and the Aegean Region under the guidance of Gertrude Durusoy (Director), Günseli Sönmez İşçi, Lütfiye Oktar, Semira Kortantamer and Neşe Özgen. In its early years the centre focused on transculturation rather than merely introducing different languages in international meetings. The Lamartine Symposium held in Tire-İzmir in 2004 was such a platform on which the issue of uniting cultures was discussed. In 2004, the centre continued working under Gertrude Durusoy with Günseli Sönmez işçi, Ersin Doğer, Semira Kortantamer and Neşe Özgen as Board Members. ADIKAM continued to thrive and generate various platforms of discussion on literary translations, languages and cultures well into 2008.
In January 2014, with its appointed Board Members consisting of Dilek Direnç (Director), Rezzan Silkü, Nergis Pamukoğlu Daş, Atilla Silkü, and Yücel Aksan, along with Züleyha Çetiner Öktem as Events Coordinator, and Begüm Tuğlu Atamer as Projects Coordinator, the centre has organised a CineForum and a series of lectures on various subjects, concluding the year with its largest academic gathering, the Literature and Cultural Studies Conference entitled "Myth-Making Across Boundaries". The second of the Literature and Cultural Studies Conference entitled "Languages, Cultures and Gender" was organised in 2016. Selected papers from these conferences were published by international publishing houses as separate books.
In January 2022, Züleyha Çetiner Öktem (Director), Yonca Denizarslanı (Vice Director), Nilgin Tanış Polat, Esra Öztarhan and Saniye Uysal Ünalan became the new Board Members of the centre with Begüm Tuğlu Atamer as the Project Coordinator. This year, ADIKAM has organised seven events with distinguished invited speakers under the seminar series entitled "ADİKAM Webinars". ADIKAM is currently planning to continue the Languages and Cultural Studies Conference series with the a new conference entitled "Nautical Narratives" between 3-5 May 2023.
